His utmost for his highest6/10/2023 ![]() ![]() In the house in Dallas, Texas, where I spent my childhood, there were always copies of it lying around. ![]() Like many Evangelical children, I was raised to trust Utmost, and to read it as part of my daily “quiet time” with God. ![]() Giving copies to their family members and friends, they have passed Utmost down through the generations, establishing it as a trusted spiritual guide. That honor belongs primarily to the millions of readers who have incorporated the book into their daily time of devotion. Bush has spoken often of his love of the book.īut it isn’t just the famous names that account for Utmost’s lasting popularity. The association with prominent Evangelical figures would continue through the decades: Jerry Falwell is remembered as a devotee, and George W. Bill Wilson and Bob Smith, the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, started early group meetings by reading from the book. ![]() Among the book’s earliest readers were Billy Graham, Bill Bright, and Henrietta Mears. Yet Utmost swiftly won a following among American evangelicals-and not just any following. Its author was an obscure Scottish preacher who had died young-nearly 20 years earlier (this year marks the 100th anniversary of his death)-and who was mostly unknown and unpublished on American soil. When My Utmost for His Highest first appeared in the United States, in 1935, few could have predicted that the little book of daily readings would become a defining text of American evangelicalism. ![]()

The iron king book6/10/2023 ![]() ![]() However there are certian traits I liked in the characters such as Meghan's bravery and Puck's humour and ability to make light of a situation. I was a little disappointed because I have read The Immortal Rules, also by Julie Kagawa and the characters in that are absolutely amazing. ![]() I found them to be a little flat and not very layered. The characters are nice, but not much more than that. The storyline is unpredictable, thrilling and suspenseful. I liked how Julie Kagawa mixed these two together to create a wholly unique world for the characters to be a part of. The story is a modern and ancient mix with the original Summer and Winter fey being the ancient part of Nevernever, born out of fables and human dreams while the Iron fey are the more modern part of Nevernever being born out of the human technological dreams. The plot of the book is very unique and I know I always say that but I promise you I'm not just saying this. We also have side characters such as the kings and queens of Nevernever, Grimalkin and certain Iron fey the characters are friends with. The series focuses on Meghan, Ash, Puck, Ethan, Kierran and Kenzie as some of the main characters. ![]() I read the series a while back and have re-read it recently because I really loved it the first time around I had read it. ![]() The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa is a unique and well written series. ![]() Kings of the wyld book6/10/2023 ![]() ![]() Reunited, they set out across the vast, monster-infested forest called the Heartwyld, clashing along the way with feral cannibals, vengeful gods, and a relentless bounty-hunter named Larkspur. ![]() ![]() Gabe’s daughter, Rose, is trapped in a city half the world away, besieged by a host of monsters known as the Heartwyld Horde.Ĭlay reluctantly agrees to go along, and together they set out to reunite the disparate members of their old band: Moog, an absent-minded wizard Matrick, a cuckolded king held prisoner by his own wife and Ganelon, a deadly warrior who has spent the decades since Saga disbanded encased in stone. In her charming, poetic, funny, and frank style, Lidia will reveal why being a misfit is not something to overcome, but something to embrace. ![]() ![]() ![]() She won’t tell you how to stop being a misfit-quite the opposite. It’s Lidia’s love letter to all those who can’t ever seem to find the “right” path. The Misfit’s Manifesto is for misfits around the world-the rebels, the eccentrics, the oddballs, and anyone who has ever felt like she was messing up. The feeling of not fitting in is universal. She’d failed as daughter, wife, mother, scholar-and yet the dream of being a writer was stuck like “a small sad stone” in her throat. Having flunked out of college twice (and maybe even a third time that she’s not going to tell you about), with two epic divorces under her belt, an episode of rehab for drug use, and two stints in jail, she felt like she would never fit in. It took Lidia a long time to not simply accept, but appreciate, her misfit status. It’s a shameful word, a word no one typically tries to own. A self-defined misfit makes a powerful case for not fitting in-for recognizing the beauty, and difficulty, in forging an original path.Ī misfit is a person who missed fitting in, a person who fits in badly, or this: a person who is poorly adapted to new situations and environments. ![]() Ecstasy by Jacquelyn Frank6/9/2023 ![]() The bond between Ashla and Trace is a mystery to both, but searching for answers will mean confronting long-hidden secrets, and uncovering a threat that could destroy everything Trace holds precious. Our Lord never proclaimed a cause-He proclaimed personal devotion to Himself.” May we never forget that Jesus is the purpose and end goal of all we do. Oswald Chambers wrote, “There is a vast difference between devotion to a person and devotion to principles or to a cause.
